The Division of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine provides both inpatient and outpatient services in the diagnosis and management of respiratory conditions, as well as intensive care for medical and surgical patients in Alexandra Hospital. We work closely with colleagues in other specialties to provide integrated care in complex patients. A multidisciplinary team in the critical care setting provides a holistic approach and optimised care for intensive care patients.
We offer a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services including lung function testing, sputum induction, bronchoscopy, pleural aspiration and pleural drainage. Besides the usual medical therapies for respiratory conditions, we work with nurse counsellors for patient education as well as rehabilitation services to help patients regain their confidence and manage their symptoms, to help enhance their overall quality of life.

- Pulmonary infections: Pneumonia, mycobacterial infections including tuberculosis

- Smoking cessation programme
- Lung function testing including Flow volume loop, spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion factor testing
- Domiciliary oxygen and non-invasive ventilation
- Flexible bronchoscopy
- Pleural procedures including Pleural aspiration, drainage and pleurodesis
- Pulmonary rehabilitation programme
