Biosketch

Dr Maryanne Romero is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Alexandra Hospital (AH) and National University Hospital (NUH), where she is also currently undertaking fellowship training in Orbit and Oculofacial Surgery. She graduated from Duke–NUS Medical School and completed her specialist training in Ophthalmology at NUH.

Dr Romero's clinical expertise lies in orbital and oculofacial surgery, with particular interests in lacrimal disorders and minimally invasive lacrimal surgery, functional and reconstructive eyelid surgery, thyroid eye disease, and orbital disorders including tumours and trauma. She is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care through a multidisciplinary approach.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Romero maintains an active academic portfolio. She has authored peer-reviewed publications and contributed book chapters, and has presented her work at prominent regional and international scientific meetings, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, and the World Ophthalmology Congress.

Believing strongly in the importance of nurturing the next generation of clinicians, Dr Romero is passionate about medical education and is actively involved in teaching at the undergraduate, resident, and fellowship levels. She serves as Clinical Faculty at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and teaches in the NUS Graduate Optometry programme.

Beyond her clinical and academic roles, Dr Romero is committed to quality improvement and patient safety within NUHS. She has served as a Patient Safety Officer and participated in institutional medical transformation projects. In recognition of her dedication to patient care and service excellence, she has been honoured with the Singapore Health Quality Service Silver Award and multiple Alexandra Hospital Above & Beyond Awards.
