A/Prof Loh May-Han obtained her MBBS and Master of Medicine (Anaesthesiology) from the National University of Singapore (NUS). Under the Academic Medicine Development Award, she completed her subspecialty fellowship in Obstetric Anaesthesia at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, Western Australia. She served as Obstetric Anaesthesia Lead from 2017 to 2022 and was part of the pioneering multidisciplinary team that established fetal therapy services at the National University Hospital. She is a faculty member of the PRactical Obstetric Multi Professional Training (PROMPT) Course, has contributed to local educational resources and guidelines for expectant mothers, and regularly lectures and moderates on topics related to Obstetric Anaesthesia.
A/Prof Loh is the Undergraduate Medical Education Director for Anaesthesia and Academic Support Advisor in the Office for Students at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, where she is deeply involved in curriculum development, teaching, mentorship, student assessments and academic support. She is also a workgroup member for the Ministry of Health National Outcomes Framework, contributing to the review of learning outcomes for medical graduates to guide local medical schools in developing programmes that remain aligned with Singapore's evolving healthcare needs.
In recognition of her sustained contributions to medical education and consistently excellent teaching feedback, she has received numerous teaching awards and commendations, including the Dedication to Teaching Award (2013–2014), Undergraduate Most Effective Teacher Award (2015–2016), Undergraduate Teacher of the Year Award (2014–2015, 2017–2018 and 2018–2019), the NUS Medicine Teaching Excellence Award (2018/2019), the NUS Medicine Fortitude Award (2020), the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence (2018/2019, 2019/2020, 2021/2022 and 2022/2023), and the NUHS Teaching Excellence Award (2020, 2024 and 2025).
Beyond her clinical and academic roles, A/Prof Loh is the Vice Chairman Medical Board (Medical Affairs – Medicolegal) at Alexandra Hospital. In this capacity, she oversees medicolegal strategy, clinical risk management, and alignment with healthcare law and ethical standards. She is committed to achieving a principled balance between supporting sound clinical decision-making and recognising patient concerns, with the aim of facilitating fair, compassionate and constructive outcomes. She also serves as a Doctor Member of the Singapore Medical Council Complaints Panel.
Prior to her appointment in Medicolegal, A/Prof Loh was the Associate Chairman Medical Board for Medical Affairs - Clinical Governance from 2018 to 2022. During her tenure, she championed patient safety, clinical quality improvement and governance initiatives across the institution.
A/Prof Loh is an active member in Singapore's anaesthesia community. She had served as Treasurer of the Singapore Society of Anaesthesiologists, played a key role in organising the Anaesthesia Day Public Forum, was Chairperson of the Organising Committee for the regional biennial Singapore Anaesthesia Refresher Course 2018, and a member in the Social Subcommittee for the 18th World Congress of Anaesthesiologists hosted in Singapore.
