Dr Leong Wei Qi graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore in 2016. She completed her general surgery residency training at the National University Hospital in 2022, during which she attained her Master of Medicine (Surgery) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and was accredited as a Specialist in General Surgery by the Specialist Accreditation Board in the same year. In 2023, she was awarded the College of Surgeons Gold Medal as the best performing resident in the General Surgery Exit Examination.
With a strong foundation in general surgery and advanced training in breast oncology, Dr Leong’s sub-specialty interest is in oncoplastic breast surgery, which balances aesthetic preservation with oncologic safety, offering patients individualised treatment that prioritises both cancer control and quality of life. Her scope of practice also includes benign breast diseases, minimally invasive breast surgery, and endoscopy.
Besides clinical work, Dr Leong is a keen educator, and is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education. She served as a clinical tutor during her training years, and is currently a clinical lecturer for the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. With a keen interest in educating the next generation of doctors in the principles and practice of general surgery, she also serves as a Core Faculty member for the NUHS Surgery-in-General Residency Programme and the NUH National Postgraduate Year 1 Programme.
Dr Leong is also the Informatics Director of the Department of General Surgery, where she leads the integration of clinical informatics into surgical practice and education.
Outside of the hospital, she believes in utilising her skills to benefit the underprivileged and has participated in surgical and medical mission trips to Cambodia, Myanmar and the Philippines.
