Hearing from Head of Allied Health, Mr Melvin Poon
The Allied Health team consists of qualified Allied Health Professionals who are specialized experts in their respective fields working alongside doctors and nurses. They are integral to our multidisciplinary holistic care team, and are responsible for delivering diagnostic measurements, therapeutic patientcare and rehabilitation services for our patients.
The Allied Health Professionals in the diagnostic services include Radiographers, Laboratory Scientists and Clinical Measurement Technologists who provide the medical team with data to diagnose and treat our patients. In therapeutics, our Allied Health Professionals such as the Dieticians, Medical Social Workers and Psychologists provide supportive care for our patients, while our Therapists in rehabilitation work ensure that our patients are able to mobilise and function to the best of their ability.
This snapshot of our team is certainly not complete as we have other professionals such as Respiratory Therapists, Optometrists and Audiologists who support the hospital team in delivering care.
As an Allied Health Professional, I have witnessed how we work together with our colleagues, wherever we are needed, and I believe that we need to keep ourselves sharp by investing in training and education. Indeed, we have had many opportunities to learn from fellow professionals as we are building our capability, and it's a shared vision within the Allied Health leadership team that we would develop our people to be the clinical leaders of tomorrow, where new generations of Allied Health Professionals would be inspired to train and work with us.
While it's certainly exciting that we are in the midst of building a brand-new integrated-general hospital on the grounds that we love dearly, I am reminded through my daily interactions that it's the people who make us special. People who reflect the Alex Creed of being leaders and dreamers, of service and care.
